what the crap is this?
(please click on the links as you go through this, they’re visual explanations that save us both a lot of time)
Why do I not consider this a web comic?
While there are no clear definitions of web comics, they’re generally understood to be comics that exist in full on the internet and perhaps later in print. When I first began doing comics, ( under the title Fart Party) I posted many of the comics now collected in Vol 1 & 2 and which I have since pulled off the web. In 2009 I switched to (future) print only and now only post online sporadically.
So then, what is it?
This comic is an autobiographical comic that is meant to be taken facetiously at times. Updated once or twice a week, the comics posted very loosely follows my daily events plus the infrequent one about my childhood, embarrassing beliefs, daily struggles, daily failures, funny mishaps, good advice, bad advice and every day bullshit. If you want to know the whole story, you have to buy the books.
How’d it get started?
This comic began in late 2005 when I was living in San Francisco where I worked as a waitress and barista, living in a less than ideal situation with my boyfriend. After I quit her job, got dumped and got the wanderlust, I moved back home for a few months before packing up and moving to Brooklyn, New York where I bounced from job to job and apartment to apartment before finally settling in a small studio in Greenpoint where I work as a full time cartoonist and writer.
The comics in the archives can be read separately or together, as they skim a 4 year timeline, sometimes even getting slightly political. Comics also sometimes appear in stick figure form when I am traveling or too lazy to make real ones and sometimes I post a comic from my melodramatic secret comics diary and sometimes the comics get uncomfortably meta.
If you’ve never read the this comic before, I suggest you start at the beginning and see if you want to waste your time wallowing through this crap.
thanks for humoring me,
Julia Wertz
