As someone that quit drinking and had fucked up bouts of insomnia related to drinking I love this comic sooo much. God I thought I was the only one with detox night terrors.
I also love how your arm on the last two panels is like 4 feet long before the elbow.
I wish I had dreams with Neil Patrick Harris. I still have problems sleeping and it screws with my life but I don’t have insurance for any meds. I feel like putting it down on my calendar if I can get 8 hours of sleep.
Pledged! Good luck to you. And as an aside, do you mind telling us what medication you were prescribed? I know someone with insomnia and terrible nightmares that would benefit from that sort of drug; just as a recommendation of where to start looking for help…
Julia if you haven’t read it yet I recommend Insomniac by Gayle Greene. It’s sort of both a memoir of her experience with insomnia and informal research and interviews with patients/doctors/etc. I usually don’t read non-fiction but as someone with some sleep problems I found this super interesting and helpful. And woo I pledged. stoked to get my signed copies.
Hey Julia, you mind sending me that name of the prescription too? I have the exact same problem you do. It’s driving me fucking crazy because I don’t always have money for drugs/alcohol and it’s gotten to the point that if I don’t have the money, I don’t sleep. It’s goddamn maddening.
I’m an artist who paints dreams, drinks obscenely n i wonder the same thing, if i change my life style will i lose my absurd inspiration? am i only as good as i drunk i am? seriously…. i’m on your facebook check out my stuff if you like, under steve hirt
It took concerned effort, planning and dedication to getting my sleep patterns reset. Alcohol was not an influence, it was just staying up too fucking late, night after night. I finally began to force myself to sleep a little earlier each night until it was a bit more reasonable.
Apparently, this is a problem for many old dudes like me. The older you get, the harder it is to regulate sleep. Fortunately, in most instances, I can control my lucid dreams as well so it makes the sleep a little more pleasurable.
BTW: Very proud of you, J. It’s tough as hell to go through. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. With some years behind me know, I can tell you that it was totally fucking worth it.
I just read all of your comics. Every single one of them, took a few hours while taking care of a sick infant, but I did it. I’m pretty much in adoration of you. Just thought you should know.
Ha! I thought I was the only one whose body fights off sleeping pills. I just lay awake all night thinking about not sleeping and how my body’s will to stay awake is stronger than the sleeping pill’s will to put me to sleep.
btw just read Drinking at the Movies and it was aaawwwweeesome.
Very very interesting. Curing fucked up dreams with drinking is a theme of lot of mee wee comics… weird… Also, hope you haven’t quit drinking 100%… if so, ignore what you’re about to get in the mail…

Alright, you motivated me to help kickstart FP V1. My pledge is in!
Glad you’re getting more sleep now, but you still seem to have…issues with authority figures (Castro, the blond King, Hitler)? Fight the power!
Thanks for uploading the additional pages!

when/if the script runs out, try melatonin. sublingual is the most potent.

Yes, Fail.

We did it, yeah!

Yes, now I can just sit back, hands folded, waiting for my “Bundle” of FP1 and FP2 to arrive in the mailbox.
Are they here yet?
How about now? Oh, as Tom Petty said, “the way-ay-ting is the hardest part.”
