spx aftermath
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009the rundown, etc:
Thanks to Benn and Rachel from Atomic Books for throwing a party/reading with this amazing cake. on Friday.
many great books debuted at SPX, here’s a few I highly recommend:
-Lulu Eightball vol 2 by Emily Flake
-Monsters by Ken Dahl
-Map of My Heart by John Porcellino (who’s gonna be at Desert Island tonight btw)
-Buzz #3 by Corinne Mucha
-Harbin #2 by Dustin Harbin
-also, I gotta admit I resisted Matt Furie’s Boy’s Club for awhile since I don’t really like pointless stories revolving around weed and poop, but I have to say I was wrong. that shit cracked my shit up.
-and what’s now in my top five favorite comics of all time, Lisa Hanawalt’s I Want You. I just…it just…I don’t even know where to start but that books is insane and insanely good and she can draw disgusting things real purdy like. It’s only $5 but I feel like I owe her more.
I took some mostly boring photos that you can see here, but as usual, Nate Beaty took way better ones.
wanna watch a pretty video about scuba diving in a flooded meadow? sure why not

That is a nice cake. I’m interested in a professional sense. How did they make it stand up? Looks like it set upon an upturned baking pan for its base, which is a very nice presentation, and the icing across the top is likely some sort of rolled fondant or very well made sugar syrup that was added at the right temperature to keep it from melting all the way down. I’m going with Fondant, though. I don’t typically like Fondant, but that cake looks very nice.

Thanks for doing the atomic books reading pre-show. You (and everyone at SPX) made my best birthday ever

I spent my birthday at SPX, too. Has this become the thing to do? Am I some kind of trendy now?
SPX was terrific. There was so much to see that it was almost overwhelming. I regret that I failed to take the opportunity to say, in person, how much I enjoy the Fart Party.

I looooooove Matt Furie. And boys club. I’m glad you gave in since you make poop jokes too.

Are you coming back to San Francisco for APE in a few weeks?

Now I’m even more bummed that I didn’t go to SPX this year. I wanted to thank you personally for the 2 panels you drew for me (goat and dinosaur). Or just stand awkwardly near your booth. Or whatever. Anyway, thanks, they look great.

that stupid video made me cry.
maybe its the cider, or the valium. but too much for late night melodramatic depressive internet sessions.
…plants underwater, that look like they aren’t. and then a fish! sigh.cry.
