Trying to keep it short: I feel that your political views, insofar as they obviously affect your daily life, are fair game for inclusion in a strip about your daily life, and I enjoy reading your take on these things even when i disagree.

What the hell? Who’s saying McCain won? All the polls and even most of the asshole pundits said Barack won.
September 29th, 2008 at 10:24 am
From what I heard, it was pretty split on both sides, even if I think Obama wins for his cool demeanor, and actually LOOKING at McCain. But, whatever.
And also, every year someone tries to blame women wearing pants and having jobs for the end of the world; it doesn’t surprise me anymore.
September 29th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Yeah, I haven’t seen anything claiming McCain won - at best they call it a draw.
(I think they were both pretty shitty)
September 29th, 2008 at 10:32 am
I’m not going to get into political blahblahblah, because you are right. *YAWN!* But, what newpaper where you reading that said that?! The Up Sean Hannity’s Ass Sunday Telegraph? The Bizarro Alternate Universe Times? The GOP Spin Daily?
September 29th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Political views?
Don’t we all think McCain is a big fat moron with a dangerous sidekick and an undisclosed heart condition?
September 29th, 2008 at 10:47 am
arf! I meant “were.” Honestly, not usually retarded.
September 29th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Yeah, have to agree with Sarah. Were you reading the Washington Post? The National Review? Douchey McDoucherson’s Sean Hannity fanzine?
September 29th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Sorry about your coffee shop.
September 29th, 2008 at 10:57 am
i made the mistake of reading the Post, which was mostly in favor of McCain. Later I realized that other, you know, GOOD newspapers either called it a draw or were in obama’s favor. doh! i learned my lesson.
September 29th, 2008 at 11:03 am
On reading political commentary in the NY Post:
The Photoshopped front page picture of Obama’s head on a beggars body should have been a dead giveaway.
September 29th, 2008 at 11:30 am
The breakdown of the family?! So you’re the one to blame! We should have known. *shakes fist*
September 29th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
yeah the post sucks!

Politics have no place in comics, nor do social commentary or humor. Comics should be about precocious children, chest-beating superheroes and adorable puppy dogs PERIOD.

“Politics have no place in comics, nor do social commentary or humor. Comics should be about precocious children, chest-beating superheroes and adorable puppy dogs PERIOD.”
You should seriously read the comments left on the last comic…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comics
“The 15th–18th centuries and printing advances
…
Early printed material concentrated on religious subjects, but through the 17th and 18th centuries they began to tackle aspects of political and social life, and also started to satirise and caricature. It was also during this period that the speech bubble was developed as a means of attributing dialogue.”
Comics ORIGINATED as political commentary. To say that politics should never be in comics is purely retarded. If it bothers you that much, find another comic to read. Not exactly saying that she and I have ever seen eye to eye on… well.. anything, but I highly doubt she gives a shit.
September 29th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
What?
Have you even checked the polls?
September 29th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Haha, I think there should be some sort of points system for when people miss blatant sarcasm. You get one point for sniping them in the first place; after that, score is based on length of reply. Extra bonus points awarded for wikipedia references, charts, graphs, name-calling, and swear words.
If we are counting length by number of sentences (a somewhat faulty system, I admit), this reply gets 13 points by my reckoning!
I hereby officially join the “Adorable Puppy Dogs Only” crusade.

eh…I think “olyman” was being sarcastic.
September 29th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
i’m just happy people seem to be realizing what a waste of a candidate palin is (i mean the ones who were excited at first, not those of us who have seen her for what she is since day 1 and been terrified at the idea of her in the white house)
September 29th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
I was never “excited” by her candidacy, but I wasn’t prepared for how awful and stupid she really was. I said that remark about “well at least he picked a woman as a running mate” minutes after he announced it. I had no idea who she really was, or else I would have kept my stupid fucking mouth shut. It still amazes me that anyone thinks she is qualified though. i dont understand why mccain stressed how necessary experience is during the first debate, and yet his running partner is totally inexperienced. wtf.

Hi Julia, I still love your comics. I like today’s comics. My sister just got kicked out of a coffee shop for studying. The manager told her that the coffee shop is not a “study hall.” Times they are a changing as they say…And I think it’s funny the way Obama uses doub speak saying that he would give 6 billion dollars to health care but can’t because the stock market crash. It sounds like a positive statement even though it ends negative. Anyways… I’m procrastinating right now from looking for a job. I just told my boss to fuck off and well… so I don’t have a boss anymore… I think I need coffee.
September 29th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Palin also made sure women who got raped in the town she was mayor of had to pay for their rape kits. Wee!
September 29th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Well sure, only godless sluts get raped, duh.
September 29th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
I dislike both Obama and McCain. I really think as sketchy as Clinton and her ‘other’ were, she would have been the better President.
September 29th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
“eh…I think “olyman” was being sarcastic.”
Impossible. Sarcasm can not be answered with sarcasm. The formula doesn’t work. The math breaks down. The center cannot hold.
That last was a “Heroes” reference, not a Yeats reference.
September 29th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Scan more comics with coffee stains on them. I enjoy the hand-made zeal that goes into your product. What would be even cooler is a T-shirt of a rough sketch with smear marks on it. Make this, and I will pay handsomely for it.
September 29th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Fear not. The pundits and debate coaches scored it even, or slightly for McCain, but most people who hadn’t already made up their “minds” thought Obama did better. Because he’s young! And sounds presidential!
Big margins of mouth breathers say Obama is teh winner! And that’s who matters; smart people already know who they’re voting for.
Obama’s up, like, 6 percent in national polls, and 538.com has him winning in a landslide, 80 percent chance.
September 29th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Hehe “godless sluts”!
I better watch my back, then.
September 29th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
I love your comics. Can’t take the politics anymore though, I am thinking about moving to some little town in the wastelands of Alaska and get away from it all.
oh wait
September 30th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Mmmkay. So.. Let me get this straight. Everyone is going crazy because they think the businesses going out of business on Wall Street shouldn’t be paid.. but then they are perfectly fine with him spending 6 billion on health care that we will be taxed to heck with? I’m not sure what goes through people’s minds. Our country is facing an economic depression because were are BROKE. Wait. Scratch that.. IN DEBT. 9 trillion, to be semi-exact. Wake up. Obama will just help us reach that depression. [So will McCain, I'm DEFINITELY not for him, either.]
By the way Julia, your comic is always awesome. And political discussions are always fun.

Cant go to Alaska to avaid politics, its even worse out there what with oil and such.
And as a Brit I would suggest that you just ignore the prat of a conservative MP. They’re all like that because they HAVE NO SOULS!
