“Wearing a barrel” is one of my very favorite bits of cartoon visual shorthand for “poverty.” I haven’t done any pricing lately, but I’m going to gues that an actual barrel is actually much more expensive than clothes (though perhaps more durable?).

My high rent keeps me from being able to buy anything from anyone. ever.

I looove the barrel thing too
it’s almost as good as the bum imagining the other bum as walking chicken meat

This is excellent!!
Up there with my favorites. Nicely done!
*goes to buy stuff*

I could see, say, Restoration Hardware getting into the “poverty chic” clothing line by selling wearable barrels. Julia, you should sell them that idea for a kajillion dollars.

This is the point where I’m at now.

I’m a broke drunk too so I can’t help you out on the paypal account, but I do believe you are my first official internet crush. I love your stuff and I will try to keep the stalking to a minimum.

I am sorry for your poverty Julia, I will try and help when I can.

Soon as I can afford to live where I do, I’ll buy stuff. Don’t hold your breath.
August 14th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
yeah we all are hurting but i will toss you a few bucks asap. just hold on, you’ll make it!

Internet ads?..maybe?..

I agree with all the hullabaloo on the barrels.
We should start dispensing them to hobos. I think it will go over well.
August 14th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
no way, fuck that. i hate internet ads. they’re too distracting and not worth it unless you’re getting thousands of hits a day, which this site is not.

I bought your book last month. Hope that helps!
Love it btw.

Have you ever thought of selling on Etsy, too? http://www.etsy.com
It’s all handmade stuff ranging from paintings, to clothes, handmade soap and all sorts of things.
I’ve sold one of my hand printed comics there before and other nerdy craft stuff. You may be able to sell some paintings and comics there?
Just a thought!
Good luck on your money hunt. I’ll be stopping by your store soon

Love the comic, keep having a crazy life so I don’t feel so alone.
I intended on buying stuff but college is expensive, lol. I’m not even going to be stepping foot on the college for another four months, I feel ripped off.

Just a quick question. How should I spend my money? I mean, I own the Fart Party book. Should I buy the mini-comics? Or are they just going to contain the same comics? Or, should I buy the panels? (I know that the answer is I should buy both, but I don’t want to duplicate the strips at the expense of buying a piece of art).
August 15th, 2008 at 2:39 am
pfft! I bought something yesterday before it was cool.
August 15th, 2008 at 11:14 am
garbonzo- well, the book is mini comics #1-4, which are not for sale anymore. so, if you buy the minis, they are not the comics in the book. the rest of the mini comics are mostly online, I just include a extra diary strips, drawings and comics I didn’t post online. So, those are the facts, so now it’s up to you.
thanks to the (very few) people who have bought things, it is greatly appreciated!

was saving the purchases for whenever you might be showing in NY again, since I missed you last time. Wanted to take home a load of yer stuff, maybe fart around your table, and slip you a wee bottle of fine JW Black to get you through the event. But, I’m no longer in NY. Will have to settle for a bundle of mail. S’all right… it’s like receiving a present, only its from myself! Good luck on the rent situation.

August 17th, 2008 at 6:50 am
oh yes, it is all true. so horribly, horribly true.
Also, I heard fart party got a movie deal and heath ledger is playing me! harharhar!
inside jokes on the internet are so depressing
August 17th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Oliver should be played by Denzel Washington.
August 17th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
I think a lot of us readers are the poor drunk type…
August 18th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Huh… isn’t it funny reading all of your fans’ excuses for not sending you what they spend on booze on an average weekend/night?
August 19th, 2008 at 2:10 am
Move to Westchester. It’s cheaper.

Sorry I don’t have the spare cash to buy from your store, but I appreciate your stance on ads. Thanks for the comics, hope you don’t die of dysentery!
