I remember when I moved from New York to the Bay Area and I was baffled that my apartment didn’t have window screens. I actually went out and bought little screens that you could put into the open windows — I was convinced I’d be eaten alive by mosquitos. Took me a while to figure out that they didn’t have them out there, I guess. You’re having the same problem in reverese now…

Another reason for screens is to keep kitties from falling out of open windows.

in Italy, practically no apartment has window screens After having installed them at home, I can’t think of a reason why this is not the default for us.

kitties! I completely forgot! Did you go the shelter to get your lil friend?!
September 25th, 2007 at 10:20 am
no, I’m not gonna get a cat because I try to avoid being at my apartment as much as possible and it’d be neglected. Maybe next year.

Try putting a window fan in, it’ll act as a screen and keep the place cooler and breezy. You should bring in the little abandoned nest egg too and make a diarama home for it!

Aww…birdies.

This is totally off-topic, but in Portland there are still some folks who think you are moving here. (I guess they aren’t religious Fart Party readers like me.) I’ve had to break a few hearts with the news that NYC won over our humble hamlet. Sigh.

Hey, those damn mosquitos love me too! I am from Louisiana and have learned a few tips:
1) refrain from eating bananas, for some reason, the nutrients (potassium?)
attract them like crazy.
2) take B-Complex vitamins. They secrete a subtle smell that repels the little beasties, it also helps to repair stress from my heavy drinking
3) a product called Avon Skin So Soft is better than any bug repellent ever. It sounds goofy but it is true. We would go fishing in the deep bayou and this stuff has a slight girly smell but I SWEAR it works.
Have fun and keep writing and drawing girl!!!

mosquitoes? you’re bloody lucky! i had to deal with a flea invasion this morning!
window screens are a neat idea, too bad they’re so uncommon in europe.

I’d check around for a cheapie window AC unit. It would cool your appartment AND keep the mosquitos out. Or get a bug-zapper and a fan. I dunno

that’s a lotta fuckin mosquito bites… be careful they’re not actually bedbugs…. apartments are shit.
my first thought when I saw the comic (before reading the caption) was FUCK, the poor girl has bedbugs already!?
(living in a studio on UWS. have had bedbugs for past 5 months. fucking impossible to kill. must resist constant urge to burn down entire block.)

no, they’re not bed bugs, I could hear the mosquitoes in my room. I am terrified of bed bugs though, good luck with yours

glad yours are just skeeters. to help prevent the scourge of hell, keep the place totally clean. they love clutter. (unfortunately, so do i…)
