May 10th, 2007 at 8:31 am
Think, “Residence Inn” but with a history.

Got a higher res scan? I want to be able to read more of the spines!
Yes, I’m one of those people who, when at a party, migrates to the bookshelves.

I really like the crosshatching and all the different textures you’ve used. Oh and the perspective is cool!
May 10th, 2007 at 9:46 am
This actually looks like exactly the sort of place I’d picture you living in.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:14 am
there should have been a cat sleeping on the pile of books
May 10th, 2007 at 10:17 am
thanks guys! it’s the kind of place I always saw myself living in too, accept not above the garage and not at my mom’s house. Also, the novelty of a small, shitty ladder to get up there wears off as soon as you have to pee at 3am. And it gets bloody hot up there, like a private sector of hell just for me! I tried to draw all the angles properly, until I realized that in real life they are bizarre and fucked up so I drew them that way. I’ll post a higher res scan of it later on flickr.

Very mikey seaver, I too am interested in the titles.
May 10th, 2007 at 10:57 am
Can the cats climb the ladders?
May 10th, 2007 at 11:36 am
This is such a neat drawing, Julia!

Wow, it’s exactly how I pictured R. Crumb’s room would look, old ragtimey music included, except that you left out the computer, you know, for blogging and scanning.
May 10th, 2007 at 12:06 pm
So now you have a ton of friends outside of Napa, how does that make you feel?
May 10th, 2007 at 12:19 pm
the computer will be featured in tomorrows comic, in all it’s broken, stored on the floor glory.
having a “ton of friends outside of napa” doesn’t make me feel good since I dont know any of them and what good are they to me if they’re not here in Napa, soaking in the hot springs of misery with me?
(on that note, Luis! yes, let’s get together when you come home, we should go visit mr. thomas and miss. dossa!)

man… now I wanna go home and listen to Honkey Chateau… stupid work!
May 10th, 2007 at 2:29 pm
aaaah! oh holy christ that is where I should be living right now! but then again, where would I do my cheesey musical dances? I guess I could do them outside, but then the birds and frogs might see. how embarrassing!

I’ve always loved loft rooms, except in the summer. I got to grow up in one and I almost rented a shitty old house here recently just because it had loft rooms!
May 10th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
oh yeah, and i think i have that same donovan record…
May 11th, 2007 at 3:28 am
This has great details!
I lived in the basement as a teen…with spiders, cobwebs, and an occassional flood. But it was a great place to hang out (and you could hear anyone upstairs approaching waaay in advance, heh heh).

This damn drawing made me shed a tear… of joy! Would you consider making it into a painting, or producing some prints?
May 11th, 2007 at 10:18 am
i too sleep in the hot, dusty attic with narrow stairs and two cats. the novelty wears off hella fast.
think of all the boys, real or imagined, you could lure upstairs in order to have illicit sex?

more proof to my long-held theory that there is nothing better for drawing comics than shacking up with your parents.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
I like the fact that you wrote this in (good) cursive handwriting. It’s becoming a lost art it seems.
I really like this drawling, but I really like all of your stuff anyways.
May 13th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
aw i love how the lil cats are all curled up and asleep. too cute.
May 13th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
Remember when Tisher, Alison, Amber & I all climbed into your bed and pretended to be naked? We were hoping to shock and horrify you, but instead you grabbed your camera and took our picture before we could stop you. Haha, good times.
May 13th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
dooode i will never ever forget that, no matter how hard I try.

a few comics ago some guys tried to critique your perspective… i like your interpretation of perspective better.
March 8th, 2008 at 3:00 am
oh man, that looks like the kind of room I could be quite happy in.
