lackluster getaway

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

I finally made it to the post office after a month of promising & delaying the trip, so if you ordered comics or buttons from me within the last two months and have not gotten them, they are finally, actually, for really reals in the mail!

Hey you have a Rockaway Beach in CA? We have a Rockaway Beach in NYC!! Super sick!

  2. Julia Says:

I think there’s one in Oregon too. Ours is right above Pacifica, which is a shitty beach cove with a taco bell actually on the beach. but Rockaway is a cute, sorta secret little town & beach cove right before it that people seem to pass up in their rush to eat shitty tacos on a shitty beach.

  3. sarah Says:

so youre moving to portland for reals?

  4. Dwayne Says:

    You spelled “climbed” wrong :(

  5. Punk Eric Says:

If you want to check out the ultimate creepy beach town, jump back in yer honda, and keep going south on 1 and make the left to Pescadero…

  6. Julia Says:

i did indeed spell it wrong, so thanks for spotting that, but doode, spare me the gayass frowny face next time.
sarah, I’m moving for reals. there’s always the chance I’ll back out last minute, but I do know I am at the very least leaving this apartment.
eric- I’ve been to pescadero & you’re right, it is creepy and awesome.

  7. shanecavanaugh Says:

There are actual Rockaway Beaches?! Are they not hard, not far to reach? Can I hitch a ride next time to

    ROCK- ROCK- ROCKAWAY BEACH

    ?

  8. Susie Says:

    rock rock rockaway beach!

  9. shelbyC Says:

wtf, of course I want to frolick too! How could you?!

  10. dk Says:

“spare me the gayass frowny face next time…” that’s funnier than the comic! LOL!

just kidding. i hate people that type ‘LOL.”

  11. samarama Says:

what are ya gonna do wit yurr bike?! *gasp*!!

  12. Gabrielle Says:

When I had just moved to San Diego and had a car, I was so bored with La Jolla that I drove all around the county for fun. I found all these great places …but I had to keep pushing this feeling of being lonely to the back of my mind.

  13. John Says:

I’m sad that you’re leaving SF. No more local references, no more infinitely slim chances of running into you when I’m in the city.

I visited Half Moon Bay for the first time last weekend. It didn’t seem all that shitty to me, though it’s not quite tourist season yet.

  14. Malach the Merciless Says:

    Rock, rock, Rockaway Beach

  15. Tall Ryan Says:

Hey, I will frolic anytime you wanna frolic. The weather has been too good to resist some sort of frolic. Frolic frolic frolic. That is all.

  16. Bash Ironfist Says:

You know what sucks more then going to the beach by yourself? The movies. I dated a woman for almost 3 years, and recently after breaking up, went and saw 300 by myself. Good movie, but I felt like a dick being there alone.

  17. michael Says:

i’ve driven from pacifica to half moon bay and neither one seemed too shitty. I guess i’m a huge sucker for west coast coastline. Pacifica did seem a bit overdeveloped. i missed rockaway beach though.. I’ll have to check it out.

anyway, good luck in portland. I love it in portland and i have lots of friends there, but i think SF is my favourite city in the usa. too bad it’s so damn expensive…

  18. MDH, II Says:

All your loyal and adoring fans — give ‘em a warning and they’ll likely meet you. Well, those who live on the West coast … CA anyway.

  19. Kristen Says:

I know whatcha mean. The frolicking isn’t nearly as much fun when you’re alone (and I got two dogs). Especially because you can’t get drunk and make someone else drive. At least frolicking alone is more fun than sitting in your house and feeling lonely, and a hell of a lot better than accompanying a friend on a dumb shopping spree through the mall, going to a stupid movie that someone else didn’t want to go to alone, or (uuggh!) being at work!

  20. julia Says:

with my bike? I’m still going to ride it everywhere, the car is just so I can get myself up there.
and, thanks, but I dont really fancy meeting any strangers at the beach, unless it’s for shady transactions & handjobs under the pier.
also, I didn’t mean the drive wasn’t beautiful, I just dont like pacifica specifically. it’s not that bad, but there are way better choices nearby.

  21. Arlene Says:

    this is so cute!

  22. daz cox Says:

Chewing out a rhythm on my bubble gum
The sun is out and I want some
It’s not hard not far to reach
We can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach

    another great comic!

  23. T2 Says:

    A joy shared is doubled.

I travel A LOT and sometimes take side trips to places. It’s cool and all, but you are so right…it can be actually kinda sad not be able to share the stuff you see.

I personally don’t do “alone” very well anyway.

  24. Sarah The Great Says:

If you ever get back out here, Rockaway beach is actually PART of pacifica. Everything between Manor (where there is a crappy safeway and a nice farmer’s market) and Linda Mar (where there is a slightly more upscale safeway) is in Pacifica. Linda Mar beach is the one with the crappy taco bell, and it’s actually a pretty nice beach if you go north of the taco bell. SO THERE!

Don’t diss my town, man! It’s actually quite beautiful, and it’s always only a 5 minute walk to a beautiful, undeveloped, secluded spot, if you know where to go, and there’s nice parks for hiking and the bluffs between Linda Mar and Rockaway are SO pretty. HAHA!

  25. Matt Says:

This feels like me at the moment, so much so it has made me rightclicksaveas…
