Don’t know if it makes you feel any better or not, but you’ve accomplished a lot more with your comics this year than you would have if you’d gone to CCS.

err… wow!
and my best wishes for 2007.

Busy busy Julia! Try not to shiver too much at the sheer horror of being alive. Do this instead: http://www.maakies.com/archive/m623.html

The Navigator front and center. Or, well, to the left. Rad!

It abhours me to see the representation of this comic upon you. As consolation I can only add my ‘hurrah’ to those present. They are most heartfelt and deserving.
p.s. I love your comic. It’s (fuck!) awesome.

I’m not knocking the Center For Cartoon Studies…but I’m not sure that you, particularly, would learn much (in the same way that “film school” is often criticized as a waste of money to anyone who REALLY is interested in film. Or like attending a community college course on “stand-up comedy”).
Anyway: my uderstanding of you & 2006 was that you and what’s-his-name BROKE UP when he moved, realizing that being apart might change one of you (and rather than have the pressure of trying to stay together, you decided to officially split up and just see what would happen). So I was surprised that you were able to be “dumped”…but maybe there was a comic I missed where you got back together during your visit? In any case, Spiderman 3 is going to suck, so don’t worry about it.
And, finally, the above comic is really, really good. I’ve notice that your work has changed so much in the last year (it’s gotten better, but not as in “now you can draw”…it just seem obvious that you are really refining your style). I hope someday someone interviews you in-depth because I’d like to know a bit about how you work, etc.
God, this is long. Sorry. And Happy New Year to all, by the way!!!!

You, like your comic, is young and fresh. Inarguably 2006 — a tough and sad year, but you are going and growing. I might sugges that you email Bill Amend, as he is stopping his dailies. He might have more time to catch up with people. Perhaps he could help you get into the papers.

Also, you were in Brevity.

thanks to everyone who left nice comments. as for CCS, I still might go sometime in the future, but for now I’ve got my hands pretty full. I dont think 2007 will be as eventful, but maybe that’s just because I’ll have a better idea of what I’m doing. As for Brian’s comment about the continuity/truthiness (thanks colbert) of the break up series, all I have to say about that is only about 20% of my life goes into the comics, the other 90% is just as complicated and weird as everyone else’s relationships and life, so when things don’t match up, it’s due to the 80% I didn’t report on.

Robyn is always trying to get minicomics people to lecture to students- maybe you could give a lecture at CCS!
And hey, here’s to you putting out six books in a year- twice as many as I’ve made in two years as a student!
December 31st, 2006 at 3:24 pm
6 minis already?!
And you haven’t mailed me even one!
No happy new year for you!

Easily my favorite comic of the year. I started visiting Needles and Pens a lot more and buying more comics and stuff. I never would have done that without first seeing Fartparty. Thanks.

Julia,
To one of the comic artists who has started to and will continue to make a difference to those who read her…thanks for the year.
If you can go to CCS, please do. You may not use 80% of what you learn but the experience will not be wasted, trust me.
Best wishes, Julia. Happy New Year.
Let’s hope for a peaceful and creative 2007.

to many comics in the new year! huzzah!
January 2nd, 2007 at 12:49 pm
Happy year in rebuke! I’m also confused by the missing 80% of relationships. Sometimes I think I’m missing 80% of my own life though.

yeah, mama! 2006 was banner, we (the people living in my head) jumped on the fartparty bandwagon and enjoyed the ride. looking forward to 2007: bigger, nastier and more in your face then ever before. hopefully.

Just stumbled on this because of Ryan North.
Really enjoying it. I’ll keep stopping by!

I’d have to agree with the Brian thing. Trust me, I pissed a lot of money away on film school, and if I had to do it again, I’d spend it on top ramen and, you know, making films.
The day I see a “Center for Blogging Studies” (at ITT Tech!) I may just have to resort to self-immolation in protest.

Living in San Fran surely requires more stress than that.
Be well.
